Pacific Friends of Global Health and the Australian Global Health Alliance are shocked and devastated by the passing of Pacific Friends Advisory Board member and friend, Sarah Carter.

Sarah devoted her life to serving community and working to improve the lives of those around her, both in her local community of Maribyrnong, and internationally.

She brought great leadership to global health through her advocacy that extended far beyond the health sector. In particular, she pioneered Save the Children’s Australian Regional Leadership Initiative, which had just completed its 16th bipartisan learning tour for Australian MPs, an invaluable initiative and life-changing experience to help them better understand the challenges faced by communities in our region.

She had an unwavering commitment to global health, international development, and future generations – dedicating much of the past decade to educating Australia’s decision makers on the life-changing impact of aid investment.

Sarah was a powerhouse, full of energy and life and lived her values authentically. No challenge was too big, she was always ready to find creative solutions.

We are grateful for her presence and the kind counsel and support she offered to our Pacific Friends colleagues in her almost 5 years on the board. The global health community is made stronger by Sarah’s leadership. For those who had the extreme privilege in this lifetime of knowing her, she is so deeply missed.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, her friends, her colleagues and all who knew and loved her – her reach extends sectors and borders.

Vale Sarah Carter.
